Freelance 3D Animation
Recommended Rates of Pay
December 2009

The table above shows recommended going rates for freelance 3D animation grades.
The rates refer to labour only. They do not include any element of hire for kit, equipment etc.
The suggested "minimum" rate is just that: the lowest rate that should be paid on any professional or commercial job.
The suggested "going" rate is the rate that is most commonly paid.
The suggested "target" rate is the highest rate which has been reported.
There is still confusion about holiday pay, and about the distinction between "basic" rates which exclude holiday pay,and "rolled up" rates which include holiday pay.
In each cell therefore the upper figure is a "rolled up" rate including holiday pay at 12.1%. The lower figure in brackets is the basic rate excluding holiday pay. When an employer quotes a rate, BECTU advises you to clarify whether they are referring to the basic rate, or to the "rolled up" rate, in order to avoid confusion and disputes.
